As more states and countries enact regulations concerning security and confidentiality, healthcare providers are being required to lock up tamper-resistant prescription paper, preprinted prescription forms, HIPPA forms, and other documents/forms that may be of interest to unauthorized persons.

If you qualify for a waiver from the Administrative Simplification Compliance Act (ASCA) that requires electronic submission of claims to Medicare (and to some Medicaid State Agencies) you may use
CMS-1500 forms to print your claims.

CMS-1500 forms are printed in a special red ink called Flint OCR Red, J6983.

When claims are printed on CMS-1500 paper only the data appears on the copy - all form fields, headings and lines remain invisible.

CMS-1450, also known as UB-04 forms, are also used when you qualify for a waiver to the ASCA and are submitting claims to a Medicare fiscal intermediary and to most State Medicaid Agencies.

These forms are not inexpensive, costing $20~$25 or more per 500 sheets, so protecting your forms from theft will help keep your operating expenses low.

UK Requirements for Prescription Paper Security

The National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom has published guidelines for handling of
